Oswaldo Cruz
36 years, Mexico
Oswaldo is from Mexico City and started diving in the Mexican Navy. They
gave him a mask, a garden hose, and a shot of tequila, pushed him off the
boat, and sent him on his first mission of looking for a mermaid! Once he
survived the hazing and completed his tour in the Navy, he became a PADI
SCUBA Instructor in 1994 and started working all over Mexico teaching and
leading dive groups. He is well traveled having worked Professionally in
Brazil, Egypt, Greece, Mexico, and different parts of the Caribbean and the
Pacific Oceans. He has had the pleasure of teaching over 1000 students and
is one of the most experienced dive guides in the area around Jost Van Dyke
and the North-West BVI. He has been written about in Sport Diver magazine
and also discovered the dive site known as 'Rocks and Beans'. If you have a
chance to go on a dive trip with Oswaldo, you will have fun!!! And if you
go out with him after work, you'll have fun too!
Harvey Rogers
36 Years, England
Harvey is 35 and from Cheltenham in England. After completing a Marketing degree, he entered the workplace without knowing what he wanted to do: working first in retail, then sales, agriculture and warehousing. After diving recreationally for several years on holidays around the world, he decided to go Pro and work at doing what he loved the most: Scuba Diving! Harvey spent a long period training in Thailand as a Divemaster before attaining the Instructor level Certification. He is an IDC Staff / Master Instructor with a broad spectrum of teaching experience in specialty dive courses and all levels of diving. In his spare time he really enjoys taking stuff to bits and putting it together again, as well as reading, watching movies and learning new things. For the past three years Harvey has been traveling the world teaching scuba with his girlfriend “Rabbit”, working in Egypt, the Caribbean, the UK, Thailand, the Maldives and Bermuda now has reached the British Virgin Islands!!!
Cara Lillis James (known by all simply as "RABBIT")
25 years, England
Rabbit was born just out side of London in the UK. Most people don’t know her real name so she goes by her nick name “Rabbit”. After contemplating performing arts as a career choice, she realized that she could be an out of work actress anywhere! Her main focus in life was always to live and work abroad, so she started teaching English as a foreign language before spotting some SCUBA divers off the coast of Egypt. It was an epiphany. She gave up teaching and retrained as a diver. From the day she started diving she never turned back and has dived almost every day since her first day in the pool (including Christmas and weekends)! She has been in the dive industry ever since and ‘wild horses couldn’t tear her away’. After working with some of the best and brightest teachers and mentors in Asia, she accumulated a broad spectrum of dive qualifications. Rabbit loves to meet new people, read, and live life to the full! She is right at home here in Jost Van Dyke!
Claudio Caraminica
45 years, Italy
Claudio is from the Northern part of Italy in the town of Rimini. He holds
a Master's Degree in Chemistry. He started diving in 1990 in Australia on
the Great Barrier Reef and immediately fell in love with the sport. From
1994 to 2001, he started a seasonal rotation between a Dive Center he
started in Rimini that was only open in the warm summer months, and in the
winter he always worked in Egypt or Thailand teaching diving. In 2002, he
worked as a Dive Manager in Sicily, and in 2004 he moved to Bogota,
Colombia, where his wife was from. In October 2009, Claudio went on an 8
day shark diving live-aboard trip 500 km off the Colombian coast in the
Pacific. Onboard the shark diving boat was Capt. Colin from JVD SCUBA, and
they struck up a friendship and Claudio decided to come live in the BVI to
work.
Dori
Dori has achieved the position as ‘Chief of Security’ here at Jost Van Dyke Scuba & BVI Eco-tours. Dori can be found relaxing under the coconut tree and playing with the kids. In addition to her native tongue, she also understands English and Spanish perfectly. Dori, like the rest of our staff, loves Tips! She votes ’yes’ to meat, bones, and food scraps and although she won’t ask or beg, she is grateful to any and all handouts from tourists and locals alike! Dori loves the ocean and the beach and plans on getting certified to dive when she is old enough.
Gabriela
Gabriela is 13 years old and was born in Venezuela. Her mother is Andrea and her father is Colin. Gabriela loves computers, video games, and cable TV: further proof that teenagers around the world are united. Gabriela rides the ferry every morning and then goes to school in Tortola. She received an award in 2008 as the “Top Student” of her class! Gabriela likes to answer the business phone from time to time, so please be patient with her. She speaks Spanish and English. Gabriela’s favorite thing to do in the World is to swim with dolphins! She also sails, snorkels, and has been known to help the Marine Biologists catch turtles for tagging.
Laura Alexis
Laura Alexis is the water baby. Born in St Thomas in 2006 to Andrea and Colin, she was standing on a surfboard at just one year old (that‘s standing, not surfing> see picture). What would you expect since Colin jumped off the dock with her in his arms when she was just days old and said, “this is the way it‘s going to be"!!!! Now she swims and paddles the surfboard around the Harbour and is the subject of many tourist’s photos. She loves boat rides (especially jumping off of boats!), being in the ocean, flying in a plane, and any kind of animal. Laura’s got it made growing up in paradise! She goes to pre-school on Jost Van Dyke, just 50 feet from the Dive Center.
Blyden
Blyden was born 13 January 2009. The boy of the family was weaned on salt water and sand! He’s happiest in the water: and doesn’t know it yet, but will be a sailor, fisherman and a diver (according to Capt Colin)
Capt Colin
Capt Colin’s ‘BIO’ is described on the page “Who is Capt Colin?” He is the owner and operator of Jost Van Dyke Scuba & BVI Eco-tours. Colin’s goal in life is to be a good role model for all children and to give each and every tourist the best vacation of their lives! He is at your service to give you a one-of-a-kind vacation experience and welcomes you to the island of Jost Van Dyke with open arms!
